Recommendations for visitors to the Nevado de Colima National Park in Jalisco

68

A low-pressure system across much of the country brought rain and hail to the upper reaches of Nevado de Colima National Park, blanketing the volcano’s summit in white. In response to the precipitation in regions of Colima and Jalisco, the Jalisco State Civil Protection and Fire Department issued recommendations.

State government authorities, in coordination with municipal agencies, are maintaining constant monitoring of the Nevado de Colima National Park area, where conditions increase the risks for those traveling on the access road and in natural areas.

Due to the road’s characteristics—narrow, with sections in poor condition and slippery surfaces—it is recommended to avoid visiting the area at this time, as you could be exposed to hazardous situations during your journey and stay.

When visiting these sites, the following preventative measures should be taken:

*Check weather conditions before heading out.
*Wear thermal clothing in bright colors, as well as non-slip footwear, a hat, and gloves.
*Access is only permitted in 4×4 or all-terrain vehicles.
*Compact cars, motorcycles, ATVs, RZR-type vehicles, and passenger vans are not allowed.

Your safety comes first. Avoiding the area is also a way to prevent incidents and protect this important ecosystem.

Stay informed through official channels and activate Jalisco Alerta notifications.

*Be aware that there are areas with mud, moisture, and slippery surfaces during the ascent and descent. *Use only marked trails and avoid leaving the designated paths.*Take all your trash with you and protect the natural environment.
*Be prepared for potential altitude sickness.
*Follow the instructions of the authorities at all times.
*Please note that access is limited and may be restricted at any time as a preventative measure.
