A foreign national was turned over to the National Migration Institute (INM) in Guadalajara after it was confirmed that he was in the country illegally and after being repeatedly detained for administrative offenses that posed a risk to the public, primarily in Ajijic and Chapala.

The individual is James Mitchell Wegryn, 39 years old, who was detained by the Chapala Municipal Police after committing administrative offenses at least seven times in the last 30 days. According to municipal authorities, the man was frequently cited for behavior that disturbed the peace.

During his last detention, Wegryn stated that he had no family in Mexico and no fixed address, and was homeless. Given this situation, the National Migration Institute was contacted to verify his legal status in the country.

After the corresponding review, the INM confirmed that the U.S. citizen, born in California, was in Mexico illegally. Therefore, on January 7, Mitchell Wegryn was placed at the disposal of the federal authority to begin the repatriation process.
