A severe tropical storm that struck the coastal region of Jalisco left large areas of Puerto Vallarta facing critical water shortages. The intense downpours triggered flash flooding, swollen rivers, and mudslides that heavily disrupted municipal infrastructure, particularly affecting the primary pumping and filtration systems managed by the local water utility, Seapal Vallarta.
According to municipal utility reports, debris and silt accumulation clogging intake channels forced temporary shutdowns of key water treatment plants. As repair crews deployed heavy machinery to clear obstructions and restore electrical supply to the affected facilities, emergency water tanker trucks (pipas) were dispatched to supply hospitals, shelters, and severely impacted residential neighborhoods.
While municipal workers have made progress in repairing damaged aqueducts and gradually pressurizing the main distribution network, full normalization of service is expected to take up to 48 hours. Authorities have urged residents to implement emergency water conservation measures, store necessary supplies safely, and report any localized leaks as recovery efforts continue across the tourist port.
