GUADALAJARA’S MOST ROMANTIC RESTAURANTS

As Guadalajara is rich in great restaurants, there are probably several wonderful venues that come to your mind. However, the ones that made the cut in this article are the ones we consider truly special for a night of romance. Warning: most (not all) are expensive for Mexican standards, but excellent value for your money. Reservation is required.

Villa Ganz Boutique Hotel: Imagine strolling through the sophisticated avenues with the beautiful colonial architecture of Colonia Americana and then arriving to a 20th century mansion converted into an intimate hotel and romantic restaurant. Romantic culinary 5 courses dinner by candlelight in a private garden.📍C. Manuel López Cotilla 1739, Col Americana, Lafayette, 44150 Guadalajara. Phone33 3120 1416

Sky Bar 360°: Located inside Hostal Boutique La Casa de las Libélulas. A fabulous view of the city center. You must climb a lot of stairs but it’s worth it. Pet friendly.  6pm to 1 am every night.📍Av. Fray Antonio Alcalde 742, Centro Barranquitas, 44280 Guadalajara.

BRUNA: Mexican fusion with incredible cocktails by chef Óscar Garza. Set amid manicured gardens, and home to an exclusive art gallery, with tables on its flamboyant black-and-white parquet floors. SPECIAL: Ask for a free guided tour before or after your dinner to visit Bruna’s extensive art gallery, the most prominent art gallery in Western Mexico.📍C. Miguel Lerdo de Tejada 2418, Lafayette

La Madalena: For Nidia’s birthday, we picked a restaurant we had never been to. We almost canceled because of their strict dress code, and I’m so glad we didn’t. It was one of the most memorable restaurant experiences for the 14 of us attending. It was incredible from the amazing decor, service, food, and quality price. I am forced to share the #1 restaurant spot in GDL between Bruna and La Madalena.📍The Landmark, P.º de Los Virreyes 45, Local V16, Puerta de Hierro, 45116 Zapopan.

TIPS: Must book a table in the main room with changing ceiling & Library Rooms, it is VERY romantic. The portions are HUGE. Don’t over order. Must ask and obey by their dress code. Best time to go is 7 pm when you’ll have quiet for about 2 hours before the music starts slowly rising. Dresscode: No gym outfit. No sneakers. No shorts. No flip flops. Not too sexy. Not too sparkling. Not trashy. But nice jeans or sandals allowed.

Casa Pedro Loza: Savor a 3 hour private dinner for two, with candles and rose petals, with your own waiter, in a private room or balcony, with an optional hotel room.📍C. Pedro Loza 360, Centro Histórico, 44200 Guadalajara

Casa Humo: Have Chef Nidia be your Chef tonight, at your own private home, serving you authentic traditional Mexican food in a romantic setting. Romantic duo cooking class is available as well.📍 Your home

MU: Mexican fusion by Chef Luis. If it’s your first time start off with the 5-course dinner menu. The decor is simple elegance, highlighted by bold color accents. Go for the decor, the food and cocktails selection, the ambiance and the personalized attention. And when you’re done, go to their sister project next door called the Pardo Club to dance off the food and try all the cocktails while listening to their DJ spin some vinyl’s.📍 C. Morelos 1443, Col Americana

RECCO Ristorante: Italian. Since 1973. Enjoy succulent dishes of Mediterranean cuisine on the outside porch, in a very romantic setting. Sometime, the owner himself plays piano.📍 Libertad 1981, Col Americana, Americana, 44140 Guadalajara

Juni-ko: Authentic sushi bar —with a very intimate atmosphere, only 14 or 15 seats, with 3 chef’s stations—perfect for a sensory date. Daily selection of omakase prepared with the freshest ingredients from all over the world. The fish is fresh and buttery and absolutely mouth-watering. On Sundays, you can just order off the menu, which will cost you half as much and is equally heartily recommended.📍Boulevard Puerta de Hierro 4965, Puerta de Hierro

OCTO: Seafood. By the creator of Bruna. Octo was the only restaurant awarded the 2023 Prix Versailles award, and part of the 3 Mexican projects recognized by UNESCO. Octo is a delight to look at. It is made up of three levels, highlighted by a diversity of textures and colors ranging from brick, brass, tzalam wood, granite, blown glass and sculptures that give life to fachaletas, monumental stairs, several balconies, terraces, a roof, as well as a its open kitchen and sculptural gardens. We recommend reserving an outdoor table in the garden for total romance in quietness. SPECIAL: Ask for a free guided tour before or after your dinner to visit Bruna’s extensive art gallery, the most prominent art gallery in Western Mexico.📍 C. Miguel Lerdo de Tejada 2420, Lafayette, 44150 Guadalajara

XOCOL: If you prefer to celebrate your love with other food lovers, Xocol’s communal table may end up being the most romantic adventure. Especially if you are lovers of gastronomy, corn, and smoke cooking. By Chefs Xrysw Ruelas and Óscar Segundo.📍Ignacio Herrera and Cairo 1375, Santa Teresita

Underwater Date at the Michin Aquarium: Book a romantic three-course dinner at the Guadalajara Aquarium. It will be just the two of you, and 10,000 live organisms.📍C. Mariano Bárcena 990, Zona Centro, 44260 Guadalajara
