Riviera Nayarit is pleased to announce the return of the 2021 Optimist North American Sailing Championship, which will take place in the destination for the fourth consecutive year. The event will be held from May 29 to June 5 at the Nuevo Vallarta Yacht Club, with the participation of more than 150 young competitors (from 11 to 15 years old) with representation from 18 countries around the world including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and more.

The championship, which is one of the most outstanding regattas in the world both in the International Sailing Class – Optimist, and in the Optimist Dinghy Association, is organized by the Vallarta Yacht Club with the endorsement of the Federación de Mexicana de Vela AC under the authority of the International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA).

“This is the fourth year that we have the honor of hosting the event and we are extremely pleased to host it again so that locals and visitors alike can enjoy it,” said Marc Murphy, director of the Riviera Nayarit OVC. “Our destination is fully prepared to host events of this magnitude again and we are taking every precaution to ensure that participants and spectators enjoy an exciting and safe competition.”

As one of the first destinations to receive the Safe Travel Seal from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), Riviera Nayarit is poised to safely host the event that is anticipated to bring more than 500 participants from all over the world. world. All participants, including competitors, officials, and event employees, must submit a negative Covid-19 PCR test performed no later than 72 hours prior to arriving at the event, ensuring a safe environment for everyone.

In addition, the Riviera Nayarit hotel industry has worked diligently and quickly to implement the new adaptable sanitation protocols to international standards that comply with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention ( CDC), which were developed in close collaboration with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Airports Council International (ACI) and the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).
