Jalisco confirms discounts of up to 90% for making a will
The state of Jalisco announced the launch of the “September, Month of the Will” campaign, offering 90% discounts for people who make their will between September 1 and October 10, 2026.
The College of Notaries of the State of Jalisco set the preferential cost at 2,300 pesos, compared with the regular price of 19,251.40 pesos. The campaign includes more than 200 active notaries throughout the state and seeks to surpass the 18,558 procedures completed during the previous edition.
Adults can go to a participating notary with valid official identification and schedule an appointment to complete the process before the deadline.
What are the requirements for the discounted will in Jalisco?
Jalisco established specific requirements for those wishing to take advantage of the preferential rate during the campaign. The procedure is available exclusively to people over 18 years of age who present valid official identification and schedule an appointment at a participating notary.
The requirements are:
- Valid official identification on the day of the appointment.
- Being at least 18 years old.
- Information about family members or beneficiaries to be designated.
- A previously scheduled appointment at a participating notary.
- Completing the procedure by October 10, 2026.
The notary also requests the full information of parents, spouse, children, or the people the applicant chooses to name as beneficiaries. This information allows the citizen’s wishes to be formally established and facilitates the preparation of the final document before a notary.
The deadline to complete the procedure at the preferential price is October 10, 2026, one month and ten days after the official launch. Anyone who misses the deadline will have to pay the regular fee of 19,251.40 pesos, which applies during the rest of the year.
Why is it advisable to make a will in Jalisco?
José Luis Leal Campos, president of the College of Notaries of the State of Jalisco, said that anyone can leave an inheritance, regardless of the size of their assets. He explained that a will is not only for people who already have substantial property, since circumstances can change and assets can be inherited by a spouse or children in the future.

- Prevents legal disputes among heirs.
- Can be modified as many times as the owner decides.
- Provides legal certainty to the family.

Tatiana Esther Anaya Zúñiga, legal adviser to the Executive Government of the State of Jalisco, said that the agency provides guidance to citizens throughout the process. She emphasized that discussing a will is not about death, but about life, love, responsibility, planning, and preparation, describing it as an act that provides loved ones with peace of mind rather than problems.
