The number of arrest warrants issued against activists for Playa Las Cocinas rises to eight

15

Initially, four people were reported to be included in the court order; however, after a recent review of the corresponding investigation file, four more were identified, bringing the total to eight individuals involved.

The charges against them include alleged participation in crimes such as threats, property damage, incitement to crime, and criminal association, all related to actions taken in defense of the territory and the environment.

According to the defense, the first group of four people had already filed for legal protection, while the second group had not been formally notified until the review of the case file.

The case unfolds amidst a conflict over free access to the beach, the protection of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (ZOFEMAT), and potential environmental impacts stemming from the tourism project in the area.

Given this situation, collectives and citizens have expressed their concern, considering it a possible criminalization of social protest and environmental defense. They have also demanded transparency in the investigations and respect for the rights of those involved.
