Following the violent events that occurred in various parts of Nayarit on Monday afternoon, several intercity passenger transport companies announced the suspension of service to Puerto Vallarta and other destinations in the region.

Companies suspend routes for security reasons

Through their official social media accounts, some of the companies announced the temporary cancellation of service. For example, Primera Plus reported the suspension of routes such as Guadalajara–Puerto Vallarta, Vallarta–Guadalajara, Guadalajara–Mazatlán, and Mazatlán–Guadalajara.

“Due to circumstances beyond Primera Plus’s control, the aforementioned services are temporarily suspended. We encourage you to stay tuned to our official channels,” the company stated.

Meanwhile, Estrella Blanca announced the suspension of routes from Puerto Vallarta to Tepic, Guadalajara, and Mazatlán. “Due to security measures and in response to the current situation in the region, the decision has been made to temporarily suspend service,” they indicated.

If you have a pending trip, you should contact the customer service lines of each company to manage changes or rescheduling.

Violence after the capture of alleged criminal leader

The violent events stem from the capture by federal authorities of “El Jardinero” (The Gardener), identified as one of the key operators of the New Generation Cartel in the region and who was also wanted by U.S. authorities.

Surveillance reinforced on the Jalisco-Nayarit border

In response to the roadblocks set up by criminal groups, the Jalisco government, through the Ministry of Security, reported that it is maintaining surveillance on the border with Nayarit through targeted patrols.

“Convoy patrols by the Jalisco Police, the National Guard, and the Army are continuing in the border areas with Nayarit, in addition to checkpoints. Likewise, patrols are being conducted in the Valles Region, by air and land, and on the North Coast, in Puerto Vallarta,” the agency reported.

Authorities urge residents to stay home

The Nayarit government reported that it is maintaining operational and preventative measures to safeguard peace and social tranquility, and urged citizens to remain sheltered in their homes.

“As a preventative measure, citizens are urged to stay home and avoid going out unless necessary, following the recommendations of the authorities at all times,” the government stated in a press release.

It also urged the public to stay informed only through official channels and avoid spreading unverified information that could generate uncertainty.

In Jalisco, no violent incidents have been reported, nor has any directive been issued to suspend activities or remain sheltered.
