The governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, announced that officials in the Ciénega de Chapala region are under investigation for alleged ties to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). This comes after the arrest of five public servants in Chavinda for their suspected links to this organized crime group.

In a press conference on Monday, March 23, 2026, Governor Ramírez Bedolla reported that an investigation is underway in several municipalities in the western part of the state, in the Ciénega de Chapala region, to locate officials with alleged ties to the CJNG.

He confirmed that the five public servants arrested in Chavinda are a result of the investigations being conducted by Michoacán authorities.

“I reported in previous days that there was an ongoing investigation in several municipalities in the western part of the state, and this result we have in Chavinda is precisely motivated by that investigation in this area of the state. It is not the only municipality; there are more municipalities under investigation,” he commented, assuring that operations and investigations will continue in this part of the state.

He also told Uno TV that there is ongoing intelligence analysis and investigation in two different regions of Michoacán: Ciénega de Chapala and Tierra Caliente, in coordination with the National Defense, the National Guard, and the State Attorney General’s Office.

He reiterates that the boundaries between Tepalcatepec and Jilotlán must be respected.

Furthermore, the governor of Michoacán reiterated that geographical boundaries must be respected for security purposes, after the presence of Tepalcatepec Municipal Police officers in the municipality of Jilotlán de los Dolores, Jalisco, was reported.

He even said there was a meeting with federal, state, and tax authorities to agree that security boundaries must be respected.

“There was a meeting last week with the National Guard, the Ministry of Defense, the Army, and the governments of Jalisco and Michoacán, as well as the Attorney General’s Offices of both states, regarding the Tepalcatepec area and its border with the municipality of Jilotlán de los Dolores. It was agreed that these boundaries must be respected for security purposes in a coordinated manner. This coordination is precisely what has led to this order between the Jilotlán de los Dolores and Tepalcatepec, Michoacán area,” he said.
