Puerto Vallarta’s Green Patrol protects more than 15 turtle nests

The sea turtle nesting season in Puerto Vallarta remains active and intense. In the last five days, the Municipal Public Safety Directorate’s Green Patrol has collected more than 15 nests, which were delivered to the Environmental Sustainability Department for safekeeping in incubation pens.

The reports cover virtually the entire Vallarta coastline, from Boca Negra to Playa Camarones, including spots such as Playa de Oro, Playa del Holi, and Flamingos. In contrast, sightings are fewer on other beaches due to the presence of people and artificial lighting, factors that often scare away the turtles.

Environmental authorities noted that when a turtle is disturbed during nesting, it tends to return to the sea and interrupt the reproductive cycle. Under optimal conditions, each female can lay between 80 and 100 eggs per nest.

As part of conservation efforts, a new incubation pen was inaugurated last month at the Crown Paradise Hotel in Playa de Oro, adding to five others already in the municipality. This space guarantees greater security for the eggs and contributes to the protection of these endangered species.
