A man was robbed of an expensive watch at gunpoint inside a restaurant in the Colomos Providencia neighborhood of Guadalajara on Wednesday afternoon.
What was supposed to be a peaceful afternoon of family time turned into a scene of terror. Around 7:00 p.m., a gunman entered a seafood restaurant located on the corner of Asunción and Providencia Avenues to steal a luxury watch from a diner who had been there for more than two hours.
While entire families were enjoying their meals, some with young children and others celebrating birthdays with cakes and bouquets of flowers on the table, the man dressed in black and wearing a face mask walked straight up to one of the tables and, without saying a word, pulled out a gun to demand the watch from the customer.
The victim refused, so the robber fired a shot from very close range to force him to hand over the accessory, valued at 850,000 pesos. At the sound of the crash, screams erupted, and customers and employees threw themselves to the floor for cover.
With the watch in hand, the attacker tried to leave the premises but was confronted by some waiters and employees. However, he once again fired his weapon at the ground to force his way through and managed to flee toward Providencia Avenue, where an accomplice was already waiting for him in a vehicle.
No injuries were reported, but the scare was immense. Two spent .22-caliber shell casings were found at the scene.
The incident was handled by the Guadalajara Public Security Police Station and is being investigated by the State Attorney General’s Office. No arrests have yet been made.
