Some of the recordings were described by internet users as “apocalyptic scenarios” due to the cloud of dust that appeared to cover the sky. However, so far, no state authority has confirmed that it is a sandstorm.

What has been recorded, according to Jalisco Civil Protection, are wind gusts of up to 20 km/h (12.5 mph), which could have caused the upheaval of land in certain areas, creating the impression that this meteorological phenomenon was actually occurring.

Despite the widely shared images, neither the state government nor Civil Protection has issued official statements on the matter. For now, everything points to a combination of strong winds and dry ground, without actually having a sandstorm.

Furthermore, if it is a sandstorm of this type, there are several signs that can be identified, such as severely reduced visibility, a grayer sky, and the sand being lifted by the air creating a constantly moving wall.
