Terrible images and videos began to circulate on social media showing the damage caused by heavy rain in the municipality of Zapotlanejo, Jalisco. Flooding occurred in the municipal capital and other districts.
At the moment, the first reports indicate that the flooding was caused by the overflow of a dam and the La Peñita River, although the information is yet to be confirmed by the authorities. For now, several terrified citizens left recorded testimony and photos of the damage in the streets and in their homes.
The flooding reached a depth of between one and a half and two meters, causing some vehicles to be completely covered, and others to be swept away in the water, along with several pieces of furniture and objects that were a total loss.
The municipal president of Zapotlanejo, Gonzalo Álvarez Barragán, confirmed the death of a person who was swept away by the current.
