This decision was made after a meeting of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Council. While the municipalities of Tonalá and El Salto had initially confirmed that they would enforce the dry law during the elections, they ultimately agreed to respect the decision not to implement it.
The remaining municipalities, including Guadalajara and Tlaquepaque, also decided not to impose the dry law. Zapopan had previously announced that it would not have a dry law. The decision took into account the argument that without the sale of alcoholic beverages, some people might consume adulterated products.
Additionally, the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac) requested that the dry law not be declared, as weekends represent significant profits for bars and restaurants.
