Personnel from the State Civil Protection Unit Jalisco attended the collapse of the hotel Expo Plaza, which previously operated as Motor Hotel las Américas, and was owned by the drug trafficker Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo.

The establishment is located on López Mateos avenue south almost corner with Tenochtitlán street, where the collapse of approximately an area of 20 meters in front by 30 deep, a vehicle entrance, was reported.

The structural collapse was verified in the area of entry to the parking lot and does not leave injured people.

The firefighters checked the structure, which showed wear, as well as signs of weight overload, and humidity, and affected a vehicle that was parked.

What is Félix Gallardo’s hotel?

The hotel was secured in 1989, when it was considered property of the founder of the extinct Guadalajara Cartel, Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, the Boss of Bosses.

In his trial for drug trafficking, murder of the DEA agent, Enrique ‘Kiki’ Camarena, and other crimes, it was reported that he was confiscated at least 250 properties: among houses, a real estate, a pharmacy and two hotels, the latter were operated by the administrator of secured assets, in charge of the FGR, later, after being sentenced, the site was sold to private individuals.

The Hotel Expo Plaza has a four-star category, has 99 rooms, two pools, a garden, parking and amenities such as a bar, terrace, conference and meeting rooms, and a disco.

There are indications that the place was the scene of operations of the Guadalajara Cartel, such as murders, and other violent events.

Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, originally from Culiacán Sinaloa, is serving a 40-year sentence, and at 77 years of age he suffers from various health problems.

He is considered as the first Mexican drug trafficker to traffic cocaine in the country.
