How long will it take from Guadalajara to Puerto Vallarta with the new highway?

After the announcement that in March 2024 the Compostela-Las Varas section, corresponding to the new Guadalajara-Puerto Vallarta highway, will open, a work that will have to be finished in July 2024, as reported by the Federal Government in July 2023, the population, drivers and carriers wonder what will be the travel time between the capital of Jalisco and the coast.

For this, the first thing that must be reported is that, according to the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SICT), the total work of the new Guadalajara-Puerto Vallarta highway will have a length of 86.5 kilometers for the benefit of 17 communities of Nayarit and Jalisco, and, among the multiple tourist, social and connectivity benefits, is the reduction of travel time between one city and another.

The agency reported that the highway will strengthen connectivity with the Bajío, Guadalajara, Tepic, Las Islas Marías, Bahía de Banderas and Puerto Vallarta, in addition to reducing the travel time from Guadalajara to Puerto Vallarta from 4 hours and 30 minutes (what is currently done) to nothing more and nothing less than 2 hours and 30 minutes, in addition to also shortening the journey from Tepic to Puerto Vallarta from 3 hours and 20 minutes to 1 hour and 40 minutes.

What benefits besides shortening the travel time, will the new GDL-Vallarta highway have?

The Guadalajara-Puerto Vallarta highway, which connects Guadalajara with the tourist area of ​​the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta, is currently under construction. The work will have a length of 86.5 kilometers and a total investment of 10,601 million pesos, benefiting 17 communities along its route.

Once completed, the road will have 45 bridges, 7 junctions, 3 tunnels and 3 viaducts, which will allow the circulation of 6 thousand vehicles daily. This route will provide travelers with a time saving of between 60 and 80 minutes on their journey, a significant improvement in connectivity between cities.

In addition, the construction of the highway will generate 1,500 direct jobs and 4 thousand indirect ones, which will contribute to the economic development of the region.

This new infrastructure will allow to expand and develop the tourist potential of the Riviera Nayarit, providing safer transfer conditions for all users and connecting two international airports: Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, and Tepic, Nayarit.
