Puerto Vallarta expects a good winter season from the Canadian market, its second most important international market, placing the destination within the top 3 nationally in attracting tourism from Canada.
For this season, the Canadian airlines, Transat, Westjet, Sunwing and Air Canada, will increase their number of seats by up to 24% on flights from Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria and Winnipeg to name a few, which will allow Puerto Vallarta to close to at least 75% annual average occupancy.
Until August of this year, Puerto Vallarta has received 304,788 Canadian visitors, exceeding by approximately 2.15% the annual total for 2022, where 298,358 visitors were registered.
At the national level, at the end of 2023, the expected arrival of Canadian tourists by air is 2.3 million, which represents a growth of 32.9% compared to 2022 and a recovery of 1.2% compared to 2019; An expense of 2,701 million dollars will also be recorded, this is 38.6% higher than that of 2022 and 15.5% more than that observed in 2019.
“The growth of Canadian tourism to Mexico, mainly to Puerto Vallarta, is a reflection of the confidence and recovery that the port projects, so this next winter season we wait for visitors with open arms to experience the hospitality, gastronomy and its more than 50 activities that this destination offers,” commented Luis Villaseñor, director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Promotion Trust.
This Mexican Pacific destination is not only a benchmark for Canadian tourism, since during the 9 months of 2023 it has registered the arrival of 2.8 million international passengers, an increase of 10.7% compared to the same period last year, where obtained a record of 2.5 million passengers, positioning the destination as one of the favorites for travelers from that North American country.
