As part of the Semana Santa and Pascua 2023 Holiday Operation, the Civil Protection and Fire Department installed a 24-hour Emergency Operations Center, where authorities of the different levels of government will be coordinating actions with the purpose of preventing risks and safeguarding Puerto Vallarta residents and tourists.

The head of the agency, Gerardo Alonzo CastillĂłn Andrade, reported that the program will be implemented until April 16, prior to the students’ return to classrooms. “In Puerto Vallarta, an operation has been designed that will cover important aspects such as reinforcing the presence of lifeguards and tourist police in beach areas. By instructions of the mayor, Professor Luis Alberto Michel RodrĂguez, the priority is to make our visitors feel at home, to [let them] have fun with the tranquility and security that very few tourist regions in Mexico can offer and we must take advantage of that as a distinctive and attractive element,” he said.

“Our unit will be working with 150 elements distributed both on beaches and in different areas of the city. We must remember that the destination not only offers beaches but also rivers and streams, as well as the urban area that we know has a great impact on us. We will be very vigilant on the busiest beaches such as Los Muertos, Palmares, Camarones, Holi, and others from Boca de Tomates to Boca de Tomatlán, where we will have about 50 elements distributed, including lifeguards,” he added.

For this, there will be vehicles and equipment deployed in different parts of the city, such as beaches, highways, the MalecĂłn, and religious centers where Stations of the Cross are usually carried out on Good Friday. In addition, operational resources will be distributed to the different Civil Protection and Firefighters bases, for a better response to any report.

“We will be attentive to the municipal, state, and federal agencies to attend to any emergency. We will be working in coordination with Public Security, Regulations, Public Services, DIF, as well as in conjunction with the municipality of Bahía de Banderas,” he said.

Castillón Andrade reiterated that camping on the beaches is prohibited and the elements under his command will be recommending that swimmers always take the lifeguard into account, and ask about sea conditions, “we all want to have white balance and with everyone being informed of the results will be better,” he concluded.
