The head of the Federal Consumer Attorney’s Office, Ricardo Sheffield Padilla, stated that he is already working on the issue of charging for tickets because “it is illegal.”
The head of the Federal Consumer Attorney’s Office (Profeco), Ricardo Sheffield Padilla, assured that the unit in his charge is already working on the issue of airlines charging hand luggage “because it is illegal.”
“For about 60 or 90 days, all the airlines unilaterally and illegally decided that the basic fare does not include your hand luggage. When the law specifically indicates it, and we have judicial resolutions in a process that support it in this way, and thus interpret the law, ”said the federal official during an event.
“It is something that we are fighting at this time,” he said during his participation in the event The Development of the Tourism Sector from Normalization.
Sheffield Padilla affirmed that the airlines only want us to “carry a small bundle or a small suitcase, that fits under the seat, not in the luggage rack, under the seat. What’s going on, they’re going too far, that’s what’s going on.
In addition, the official stated that the advertising of the airlines is focused on promoting “economic” flights, when in reality they are not, and an example of this is Viva Aerobus.
“In general, the airlines in Mexico are directing their advertising to make you believe that they are cheap, not being cheap, but only making you believe that they are cheap, that is why the misleading advertising of Viva Aerobus, that we are dealing with legally.”
“They cannot tell you that for 39 pesos or one peso you are going to fly, that is not true, although in their computer system, on their page, they say that the basic rate is one peso or 39 pesos. But what they are doing today is nothing more than making you believe that it is economical to fly”, the official concluded.
