More than 900 abandoned vehicles have been removed from the streets of San Pedro Tlaquepaque as part of ongoing municipal operations to free up public spaces and prevent illegal parking.
These actions are coordinated by the municipal Traffic Department and aim to reclaim public spaces, improve traffic flow, and address citizen reports in various neighborhoods of Tlaquepaque.
How many vehicles have been removed in Tlaquepaque?
According to data released by municipal authorities, 1,683 vehicles have been identified as apparently abandoned since the beginning of the current administration.
Of the total:
734 vehicles were removed by their owners after receiving a notification.
949 vehicles were removed directly by municipal traffic personnel.
The operations began in downtown San Pedro Tlaquepaque and gradually expanded to other neighborhoods in the municipality, primarily in areas where residents reported vehicles abandoned for weeks or even months.
What environmental, health, and urban risks do abandoned vehicles pose?
Besides occupying parking spaces, environmental specialists and authorities warn that abandoned vehicles can become breeding grounds for trash, stagnant water, and pests such as mosquitoes, rats, and other insects.
The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) has indicated in various reports that this type of urban waste can generate pollution, foul odors, and negatively impact public health, especially when it remains on public roads for extended periods.
Another risk is the potential for spills of oils, fuels, and other automotive fluids that can seep into the soil or drains. Furthermore, some deteriorated vehicles obstruct visibility on streets and intersections, block sidewalks, or reduce available parking spaces.
In which neighborhoods are these operations being carried out?
According to the official report, some of the neighborhoods where removal actions have already been carried out are:
El Vergel
Solidaridad
Las Liebres
Santa Anita
Authorities in Tlaquepaque indicated that they are also addressing reports from residents who find abandoned vehicles or parking spaces illegally reserved on public roads.
What will happen to those who “reserve parking spaces”?
The municipality also has an active operation against people who place objects to prevent other drivers from parking in public spaces.
Among the objects that are usually removed are:
cans
buckets
boxes
tires
makeshift structures
According to the Traffic Department, in addition to obstructing public spaces, these objects can hinder the passage of emergency vehicles on some streets and in some neighborhoods.
How can abandoned vehicles be reported in Tlaquepaque?
Municipal authorities announced that residents can report abandoned vehicles or vehicles being reserved for parking spaces directly by calling 33 3738 9300.
When making a report, it is recommended to provide the exact location of the vehicle or object obstructing the roadway, as well as any landmarks that may help locate it.
