With the new flight to Puerto Vallarta, scheduled to begin operations in June, demand for travel to that destination has increased by 60%, according to Daniela Alejandra Alonso Barrón, president of the Mexican Association of Travel Agencies (AMAV).

Alonso Barrón indicated that since February, when the four new flights operated by Volaris to Puebla, Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Puerto Vallarta were announced, travel agencies have begun putting together vacation packages for those destinations.

She emphasized that the flight to Puerto Vallarta, in particular, has generated a strong response, as it is the preferred beach destination for residents of San Luis Potosí. “It was a flight we desperately needed, one that many people were requesting,” she said.

The flight between San Luis Potosí and Puerto Vallarta takes an hour and a half, while the overland journey takes more than 10 hours, making it a major advantage for vacationers. In that regard, she noted that demand for travel packages to Puerto Vallarta has increased by approximately 60% since the launch of the flight.

She mentioned that a three-night travel package to this destination costs an average of 8,000 to 9,000 pesos, with an all-inclusive plan and round-trip flights from San Luis Potosí to Puerto Vallarta.

Cancun remains a popular beach destination for residents of San Luis Potosí, thanks to its direct flight service.

Alonso Barrón, who was recently re-elected for a second term as head of the AMAV San Luis Chapter, indicated that travel agencies have put together packages with lodging and flights to the destinations that will be offered starting in June from the Ponciano Arriaga International Airport.
