Puerto Vallarta hosted the 2026 edition of the Downhill & Freestyle event, which featured more than 40 elite riders from 12 countries. The competition was held as part of the state’s strategy to strengthen sports tourism and maintain the destination’s presence on the international extreme sports circuit.
The event drew over 22,000 attendees during the May holiday weekend and received international coverage. It was also included in the agenda for the 2026 World Championships Year, which includes more than 100 globally focused events in Jalisco.
The competition brought together riders from the Czech Republic, France, Spain, the United States, Canada, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Greece, and Mexico. The format included both women’s and junior categories, all under the same technical criteria.
The event received international coverage through partnerships with ESPN, Fox, Disney+, National Geographic, Televisa, and TV Azteca, which amplified its media reach.
The course began at the Mirador del Cerro de la Cruz viewpoint and finished facing the Pacific Ocean, passing through streets and stairways in downtown Puerto Vallarta. The track design was the work of international specialists.
The program included practice sessions on May 1st and the main competition on May 2nd, along with the Best Trick contest.
A tourist destination ready to host world-class events
Puerto Vallarta boasts 456 lodging establishments and a capacity of 27,504 rooms, making it ideal for hosting large-scale events.
As part of the complementary activities, the participating athletes gave a free clinic for children and young amateur riders from the municipality.
Finally, state authorities plan to hold the event again in 2027 as part of the international Downhill & Freestyle calendar.
