Following a citizen complaint, a strategic operation was carried out in the town of Ajijic, in the municipality of Chapala, where six horses showing signs of mistreatment and neglect were seized.
The intervention took place on Camino Real Street, in the area known as “Paseo de los Caballos” (Horse Walk) in the La Floresta neighborhood. At the site, investigative agents coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, based in Chapala, along with municipal authorities from the Directorate of Ecology and Sustainable Development and the Public Security Police Station, inspected the horses.
After a thorough examination by veterinary zootechnicians, it was determined that six of the horses suffered from anemia, malnutrition, and parasites.
In addition, the specialists detected injuries to the limbs due to faulty shoeing, untreated fractures, and wounds on their backs caused by the use of inappropriate tools and improper saddle placement.
Given the assessment that the location was unsuitable for their care due to a lack of basic necessities, the six animals were formally seized and placed in protective custody for their subsequent rehabilitation.
It should be noted that the investigation will continue to determine any corresponding responsibilities.
