These are two main projects: the Chapala-Guadalajara Aqueduct and the expansion of Water Treatment Plant Number 1.

These projects require an investment of approximately 15 billion pesos, according to the state governor.

“To build a new Chapala-Guadalajara aqueduct, we need an investment of around 10 billion pesos,” Lemus stated.

“And another major investment we need to make to improve water quality is the expansion of Water Treatment Plant Number 1. This requires an investment of around 4.8 billion pesos; that is, if we finalize the figures, it’s around 15 billion pesos.”

The Governor indicated that there has been progress in negotiations with the head of Conagua, Efraín Morales, with whom different financial scenarios were discussed, and a meeting is planned for the coming days.

“I’m already working with him. I’ve had two meetings with the director of Conagua; in fact, yesterday, staff from the agency visited us. We agreed to have another meeting. We don’t yet know if it will be during Easter week or the following week, in Mexico City, for the financial validation and to obtain federal funding for these projects,” the governor stated.

He added that it wouldn’t be necessary to take on debt, since the alternatives include a public-private partnership and obtaining federal funds through Fonadin.

He also mentioned other projects with federal support. Among them is one in the Atequiza area, which would be financed with the additional funds granted to Siapa through the State Water Commission.

“It’s a kind of bypass in the Atequiza area, a new pipeline that will allow the water to avoid passing through the most polluted areas, thus helping us improve its quality. It’s a short-term project, with an investment of around 850 million pesos, which I hope we can finish in approximately four months,” Lemus stated.
