The waste collection concessionaire, Red Ambiental, has partially suspended services indefinitely due to millions of pesos in unpaid bills from the past seven months, the company announced in a statement.

The company emphasized that, due to seven months of accumulated debt from the municipality of Puerto Vallarta, and “despite the extraordinary efforts made by our company to maintain operations—including payment plans aimed at not disrupting service—these commitments have not been met.”

The company clarified that financial limitations “place us in a situation that prevents us from continuing to provide the service,” and therefore, starting this Friday, garbage collection will be “partially” suspended on some routes in the city as a responsible and temporary measure aimed at preventing a greater impact.

After reiterating that health and the environment are priorities, the company stated its full willingness to maintain open channels of dialogue with the municipality in order to reach a prompt agreement “on outstanding payments that will allow us to fully restore service.”

It is worth noting that this company obtained the concession just over a year ago under the current Green Party administration, but since its inception, complaints about the service have not stopped [from citizens and tourism providers].
