On September 21, a clash between security agents and civilians was reported in Teocaltiche, Jalisco. According to initial reports, at least four people were killed, and some were arrested.
Local media reports indicate that the deaths were the result of a clash between members of the Ministry of National Defense (Defense) and armed civilians. The incidents reportedly originated in Zacatecas and spread to Jalisco.
The El Informador website reports that Army personnel were patrolling the border between Zacatecas and Jalisco when they saw possibly armed individuals in a vehicle. They were stopped, but the driver accelerated, leading to a chase and gunfire.
However, to date, none of the authorities in the aforementioned states have released any statements or information regarding the reports. While information shared by Meganoticias indicates that the report was made around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday near a high school.
The outlet adds that after the attack, security agents found firearms and a van with no license plates. No Army personnel have been reported injured following the violent events.
Security personnel attacked in Teocaltiche
It is worth noting that on August 9, members of the Jalisco Security Secretariat were the target of an armed attack by civilians inside a ranch. The uniformed officers were attacked while conducting surveillance in the area.
The officers repelled the civilian attack; the latter were outnumbered and ended up fleeing around the back of the ranch and fled the scene. Furthermore, the ranch where the attackers were holed up was seized, and firearms were found there.
Meanwhile, at the end of August, five men, alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), were sentenced to prison after being found responsible for an armed attack against members of the Army and the National Guard in San Pedro Tlaquepaque, events that occurred in 2020.
Gustavo Alfonso Contreras Ayón, Jesús Emmanuel Cruz Escobar, Miguel Ángel Salinas Magallanes, Víctor Manuel Rojas Gómez, and Juan Manuel González Amatón were convicted of attempted murder, as well as carrying a firearm, and possession of weapons, cartridges, and magazines exclusively for military use.
