They were offered an apartment on Lake Chapala and then took their money. This is the latest mega-fraud in Jalisco.

Another mega-fraud adds to the 14 already existing, affecting more than 6,200 people. Now, the victims are senior citizens who gambled on owning an apartment overlooking Lake Chapala. They even paid in dollars and lost everything, not even owning any property.

They paid an average of $160,000, about 3.2 million pesos, or even less in the currency exchange. The transaction began in 2019, as is the case with Salvador Navarro Gómez, 68, and to date, there is no building or apartment.

He claims that the contract was signed with Agustín and Rosalía Levy, whose whereabouts are unknown. He paid them.

But they disappeared, and he, like many people, mostly senior citizens, plus some families and investors, was affected.

Her dream of spending her senior years by the lake ended with just that, and today she lives with her children. She lost everything because she even had to sell furniture and other personal belongings to pay off the debt.

“Entorno Laguna” is the name of the promised development, which was located across the road, overlooking the lake, with commercial premises on the lower level and more than 40 apartments on the upper level.

Navarro and other victims filed complaints for generic fraud, classified under Article 250 of the Jalisco Penal Code. However, to date, the Prosecutor’s Office has not prosecuted the cases.

As with Yox Holding, AJP, Axe Capital, and 11 other companies, they suddenly vanished, and today there is nothing. Those responsible fled, and the complaints have been filed piecemeal, with no progress in the investigation.

That’s why they demand that this case, in addition to being clarified, serve to force the Jalisco government to establish mechanisms to prevent the operation of ghost developments and that the State Congress implement the corresponding reforms to protect people, prevent this type of business, and thus further deception.

“We want justice, not handouts. Return our money or go to jail,” said the victim.
