Flooding issues addressed in Marina Vallarta

The Marina Vallarta Residents Association has taken concrete actions to address the flooding problem affecting Paseo de la Marina Norte Avenue at its intersection with Albatros Street. Each rainy season brings the challenge of water accumulation in this area, where the water level is sometimes so high that vehicles become stranded, posing serious challenges to the mobility and safety of residents, as well as hotel and condominium guests.

Antonio García López, general manager of the Association, explained that, in response to this recurring situation, a topographic survey was conducted. This study identified a blockage in a storm drain pipe that carries water to the sea, where a bubble forms, preventing proper drainage. This finding underscored the importance of carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance on drainage infrastructure.

To resolve this problem, work is currently underway to widen storm drains and install siphons in the affected area. These improvements seek to optimize the drainage system and increase its water drainage capacity. In addition, the level of the main manhole is being raised, which will allow water to flow more efficiently during heavy rainfall.

Architect Alonso González Ruiz, Head of Supervision and Maintenance for the Association, added that a six-inch air gap has also been installed in the manhole to allow air to escape. “The idea is that when water starts to enter, the air will escape, allowing the water to flow properly. With the next storm, we’ll check if it’s working properly,” said González Ruiz, highlighting the Association’s proactive approach to finding effective solutions.

These infrastructure works represent an investment of approximately 150,000 pesos, aimed at restoring proper water drainage in the area and, therefore, preventing impacts on the Marina Vallarta community. The Residents’ Association remains committed to the well-being of its residents, working together with specialists to improve living conditions in the area.
