The streets and the Malecón of Puerto Vallarta were taken over Saturday afternoon by the lesbian, gay, transgender, and bisexual community, chanting slogans demanding respect, justice, and equality, commemorating the International Day Against Homophobia, a demonstration that has been held in this city every May 17 for the past 15 years.
Leading the event were the directors of Sexual and Gender Diversity in the state of Jalisco, Viviana Arce Corona, and Héctor Ramírez Betancourt, the general secretary of the Puerto Vallarta City Council.
Also leading the march was Sandra Janeth González Govea, the newly elected first president of the Sexual and Gender Diversity Council, accompanied by her LGBT community council members.

Around 500 citizens and members of alternative groups and businesses participated. It was clear that this was not an election year, as the presence of politicians and political parties was notable.
The march began on Francisco Medina Ascencio Boulevard, crossed Avenida México, and Paseo Díaz Ordaz, concluding at the Aquiles Serdán open-air theater, where several speakers participated. This year’s motto was “Let no one be left behind, Equality, liberty, and justice for all.”
To conclude, they celebrated with a program featuring singers and artists of transformation, including Luis Arturo, Poleth, Darién Legarreda, Brigitte Andrade, Ayatana, and El Diamante Negro.
