The Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce expressed its support for the Guadalajara City Council regarding the agreement to remove street vendors from the Historic Center.
“We express our agreement with the Municipal Government of Guadalajara, in the actions undertaken in recent days for the removal of informal merchants in the Historic Center, as part of a comprehensive strategy to promote a more orderly and safe urban environment,” said the organization.
In a statement, it commented that the government’s actions are based on compliance with current regulations and seek to regulate commerce in public spaces, thus guaranteeing the safety and well-being of all citizens.
It explained that the decision responds to multiple complaints from citizens and established merchants about the saturation of spaces, the obstruction of public roads and the need to maintain a more pleasant environment for all.
“The Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce reiterates its commitment to work with the authorities in the development of formal and regulated commerce, which contributes to the economic growth of the city,” it added.
Finally, it said that it is necessary to have a regulated Historic Center, especially on the eve of the Christmas season.
“We are certain that regulating commercial activities in this important part of the city, especially at this time of year, strengthens the legal economy and the rule of law,” he concluded.
