Pavel Cortés, Content Director of the Maguey Prize, explained the criteria and values with which the feature films entered the selection, adding that they sought

“At the beginning, Queer cinematography was very marked by a discourse focused mainly on male homosexuality from a tragic vision that condemned these characters to non-realization and no possibility of consolidating themselves as a person and what we have seen in these thirteen years is an evolution of wonderful discourses where one of the selection criteria has been to leave aside films that condemn marginality and non-realization and on the other hand invite new representations that provide absolute realization regardless of the sexuality of each one of us.”

The Selection Award is named “M” for Madrid, which reflects the multifaceted and dynamic cultural relations in both cities. It was made of brass and formed in two parts that complement each other, both polished and shiny, but only one of them has a coating that keeps it dazzling, the other shows a material that changes over time, losing its shine with resilient evasions, as described by the artist from Guadalajara, Raúl Rebolledo, designer of the award.
