There Will Be Classes in Jalisco During the Solar Eclipse; Nayarit Will Return Until Tuesday

While there will be no classes next Monday, April 8th of this year in Nayarit due to the Solar Eclipse, there will be classes in Jalisco, according to information from the Ministry of Education of this state, which issued a series of recommendations to the educational structure.

Next Monday, Mexico will experience one of the most fantastic and impactful astronomical events in history, as a Total Solar Eclipse will occur, which has not been recorded for decades. In that context, the educational authorities of Nayarit agreed to suspend classes as a preventive measure.

The news was disseminated through a statement shared on their social networks, so the return to classes from the Easter and Holy Week holidays will be until Tuesday, April 9th.

In this regard, CPS News and Tribuna de la Bahía requested information from the Jalisco Ministry of Education, to which the social communication department informed that there will indeed be classes in this entity; they have even sent a letter to the educational structure, with recommendations that will allow them to observe this Solar Eclipse without risks:

  • Use certified solar eclipse glasses, ensuring that they meet safety standards and have CE and ISO 12312-2 certification.
  • Verify that the glasses, in addition to complying with safety standards, are not damaged, perforated, or scratched; if any defect is found, they should not be used.
  • Do not look directly at the Sun without protection.
  • Direct observation should only be done with filters, which have the property of filtering 99.999% of visible light and 100% of ultraviolet light. With them, solar eclipses can be observed while they are in their partial phase. They are not suitable for observing the total phase of eclipses.
  • Welding glass can be a good filter to observe a solar eclipse, however, it must be ensured that its opacity grade is 14 or higher. Otherwise, the opacity of the glass is not high enough for safe observation.
  • Ensure that children use solar eclipse glasses and supervise them to ensure they follow safety guidelines.
  • If telescopes or binoculars are used, ensure that appropriate solar filters are placed on the devices.
  • Avoid the use of improvised homemade filters, as they do not provide adequate protection. Things that should NOT be used to observe the Sun:
  • Do not use x-rays.
  • Do not use uncertified dark glasses.
  • Do not use dark glass crystals.
  • Do not use smoked glass.
  • Do not use photographic negatives.
  • Do not use compact discs (CD).
  • Do not use aluminum foil.
  • Do not use water as a projection mirror.
