Cancun, January 8. – The State Secretariat of Tourism (Sedetur) anticipated the arrival of about a million visitors to the different destinations of Quintana Roo at the end of the year, although it will have the official data on a date not yet specified, reported its owner, Marisol Vanegas Pérez.
The official said that this vacation period runs from December 22 to January 6, and anticipated that, in disagreement with her projections, they foresee a record of almost 961 thousand tourists on those dates.
He added that a total of 154 hotels requested special permits in order to have occupancies above the 60 percent allowed, and indicated that this was not permanent, but only and solely for the end of the year vacation period.
This, he explained, to continue complying with all health safety and hygiene guidelines implemented by the pandemic.
Vanegas Pérez, said that the foreign tourists who have traveled the most to the destinations of Quintana Roo have been those from the United States, followed by nationals.
“With everything that has happened due to the pandemic, we could say that we had a successful year-end holiday season, with a good number of hotels open, increased operations at the airport, tourists from the United States, from the country.
“Also from other nations, which translates into job creation and more operations for travel agents, leasing companies, nautical services and restaurants among many others,” he said.
He recognized that the result of this season is also due to all those tourist service providers, who generated all the sanitary measures to keep the sector protected in order to continue generating trust among potential visitors.
